Adelaide April 2009

Strathalbyn – Victor Harbor
April 6th
Monday - Day 3

A better night’s sleep thank goodness. Another overcast day greeted us but with less than 100 kms to our next stay there was no rush.
Ryan phoned mid morning concerned with Em’s displaced hip and Matey’s problem….in that order. He and Cain are staying there the night so she’s in the best hands, probably directing the younger brothers from a prone position on the couch.
We drove to Goolwa on the way to Victor Harbor and found ourselves at the mouth of the Murray River and the Coorong. A few birds were about including this greenshank in breeding plumage.

A juvenile pacific gull was tearing at some discarded food in plastic, it’s plumage a huge contrast with the adult gulls we saw later in the day.
We were impressed with our first views of Victor Harbor and the caravan park is nicely placed on the beach next to a river. Lots to see over the next two days. We looked at the shops and later drove to “The Bluff” on the western end of the town. I walked part way up the cliff and tried to photograph a sea eagle. Four raptors were circling about but the overcast conditions weren’t conducive to a good shot.

Baked red snapper is the main course tonight so a break from the drought and a nice wine might be in order.
