Adelaide April 2009

Salt Creek - Millicent
April 15th
Wednesday - Day 12

Last night was very windy and some light rain fell. We slept through from about 8.30 p.m. thanks to no television or internet service. Some wild wind and storms in the area according to the news were reported.

I did an early walk around 8 a.m. along Salt Creek but the windy conditions kept most birds under cover or in the lea of embankments out of sight. We decided to pack up and go although the park is quite nice apart from the worst shower I’ve come across in a long time. Glenda’s was fine.

While packing up I noticed this bird hopping about quietly. I’m pretty sure it’s an olive whistler but not 100% certain.

We stopped occasionally along the Coorong and passed three ladies who were cycling from Adelaide. The oldest one who I chatted to last night was way in the lead of her two friends despite having a bad back which made her walking gait quite noticeable.

In a fit of nostalgia we stopped at Beachport for lunch at a restaurant that we’ve dined at a few times in the past. I had salted squid while Glenda ordered a salad. Yes, we weakened and made it all worthwhile with a Sav Blanc.

Millicent seemed an interesting spot so we headed there early afternoon. Not much about so we washed the van for the first time in a very long time. So, not much was happening today save some research on the above bird. Could be a female rufous whistler…...

  1. Hello Happy Travellers! How exciting all your adventures sound. I really enjoyed the reports on the various birds. I always call Australia the continent of the birds, it surely has lots of colourful and interesting feathered friends. Western Australia seems dry everywhere. I hope you enjoy the journey (and the "wine and other things...") :)
